Welcome to Allis- your new LibDem candidate

A breath of fresh air. Not another retired wrinkley to join the pack at East Pallant House. Not another parish pump partisan just focused on local affairs. Allis comes from the world of work combining a good understanding of local issues and a broad world view.

Allis Moss, with a degree and diploma from Lancaster and Brighton universities, works as a freelance journalist and broadcaster for local and national media. She has covered a wide range of topics from theatre reviews for the Chichester Observer to contributions to BBC1 Countryfile and Radio 4 ’From Our Own Correspondent.’

What makes her want to enter local politics in particular is her concern for the NHS. With all the change taking place at the local hospitals and in the commissioning of services, Allis wants to ensure focus remains fixed on the best possible treatment for all patients. This will be her top priority if she gets elected.

What you told us

Last month Allis did a survey in a few areas of North Mundham and Oving. It gave her the opportunity to meet some of you and learn about the things that matter most to you about your street and the quality of life in your community. Our thanks to the over 60 of you who responded.

You ask for clean streets, free of litter, dog fouling, burglary and vandalism, better street-lighting and parking for more cars – well, it’s all common sense, isn’t it? And because we’re a caring society, you also want to make sure that the services that help the most vulnerable – children, the elderly and people with special needs – are protected from the cuts. Health and hospitals, bus service, emergency services, community wardens.

You want our waste collection service to be safeguarded. A local food shop and a post office is a very popular idea. That has been tried in the past. It might be worth revisiting. You are concerned about dangerous driving, speeding in the villages and you pinpoint some traffic danger spots such as turning out of Highfield Lane. You are anxious about increasing traffic. On housing many of you want no new developments. But there may well be a need in the future for more social housing of the kind just completed in Oving and being planned at North Mundham.

And there are other ideas that you put forward – from a bus shelter for the kids to a pensioner’s bus service to improved cycling and pedestrian access into Chichester. And support for local arts.

‘Let’s make this an exciting time, says Allis, ’and see what we can do together.’
